Most Canadians and Americans flock to the Puerto Vallarta region to seek sun, sand and surf but for some a more temperant climate is preferred.  The mountains surrounding Puerto Vallarta offer such opportunities.  El Tuito is about an hour's drive south of Puerto Vallarta and lies about 2500 feet above sea level, the air is noticeably cooler.  Driving an hour or two east of Puerto Vallarta are a few mountain villages, San Sabastian del Oeste, Mascota and Talpa, to name a few, that lie at about 4,000 feet.  Cool evenings year round in a temparate climate yet Vallarta and its beaches and hot sand only a couple hour's drive away.
